Event inclusivity and sustainability

Inclusion in sustainable development

Green and sustainable events are becoming increasingly popular as businesses grow more environmentally concerned. Public awareness is expanding and corporations are beginning to recognize that accountability and positive CSR (corporate social responsibility) actions are more vital than ever.

In recent years, prominent events have undergone significant modifications to reflect this. Event organizers have made public commitments to be as sustainable and ecologically friendly as feasible.

Industries and civilizations are propelled by events. They shape conversations, encourage innovation, and produce revenue. They are essential for human collaboration.

This is true for all topics, including sustainability and climate change. The events business plays a unique role in combating climate change. We provide meeting venues and market areas for people to collaborate on climate-change solutions. At the same time, we have a duty to reduce our contribution to climate change.

COP 27 - UNITED NATIONS CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE

COP27 is the 27th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

This yearly summit brings together the convention's 198 members to take coordinated action on climate change.

Climate change mitigation (the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions that cause the planet to warm), adaptation to the environmental impacts of climate change, and financing to support developing countries in their efforts to transition away from fossil fuels and become more resilient to the effects of climate change are all discussed at the meeting.

The events sector has traditionally prioritized sustainable development. Industry initiatives, linked to programs such as the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), have tackled everything from waste management and energy conservation to local sourcing and hiring practices. Sustainability ideas are now deeply embedded in industry operations and client expectations.

NET ZERO CARBON INITIATIVE FOR EVENT BUSINESSES

AN INDUSTRY-LED CAMPAIGN TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE

The Net Zero Carbon Events project, which will be launched in August 2021, is the meeting industry's global push to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and cut global greenhouse gas emissions by half by 2030.

The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), the International Association of Convention Centres (AIPC), and others created it under the aegis of the Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC). More than 400 event-industry groups from 55 countries have already embraced the program.
